Le Clos du Caillous wijnmaker Bruno Gaspard en eigenaresse Sylvie Vacheron weten ondanks de warmte in Châteauneuf-du-Pape een zeldzame elegantie in hun wijnen te brengen. Ze maken een verfijnde stijl en kwaliteit die door velen wordt gezien als de toekomst voor dit beroemde gebied.

De wijngaarden van deze luxe Côtes du Rhône liggen tegen Châteauneuf-du-Pape aan, er slechts van gescheiden door de Route Nationale. De aanplant wordt gedomineerd door vijftig jaar oude grenache-wijnstokken, met aanvullend syrah, carignan, mourvèdre en coounoise. Het rendement is – met gemiddeld vijfentwintig hectoliter per hectare – zeer laag.

Team Le Clos du Caillou

De oogst gebeurt handmatig, met een eerste selectie in de wijngaard en een tweede bij binnenkomst in de kelder. Bruno Gaspard selecteert alleen de allerbeste druiven voor Le Bouquet des Garrigues en laat deze vergisten in betonnen kuipen. De rijping voltrekt zich gedurende 24 maanden in betonnen cuves en grote eikenhouten vaten. Het resultaat is een veelvuldig bejubelde Côtes du Rhône, die het waard is om te worden vergeleken met goede Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Volrood van kleur en fraai en intens van geur, met nuances van eikenhout, licht geroosterde geuren en rijp rood bessig fruit. Rond en evenwichtig van smaak, met een lange aromatische afdronk.

Drinken bij

Heerlijk bij rundvlees, wild of gerechten uit de oven.

Houdbaarheid

Op dronk vanaf drie à vier jaar na de oogst en gemakkelijk tot tien jaar houdbaar.

Subtiel, fijn kruidig, soepel en smaaklengte. Grote verfijning. Zowel bij het koken als bij de entrecote smaakte deze rode wijn voortreffelijk. Bio spreekt me ook aan.
